Deniz Carey

Deniz CareyDeniz came to the UK as an overseas student from Turkey in 1983 and became a Christian through Nick and Grace's ministry amongst the students in Wye. She settled back in the UK in 1989 and was an active member of Ichthus Christian Fellowship, in South East London, for many years. Deniz did the July Project, an intensive evangelism training programme, and NETWORK, a year's church planting and evangelism course designed to equip people for Christian ministry. She was a part of the leadership team within her local congregation and she led house groups, youth people's groups, Alpha courses and worked within the local community in a pastoral capacity.

Deniz now lives in Plymouth with her two wonderful daughters, Karmel, age 13 and Beth, age 10. Karmel worships at Mutley Baptist church which has a large youth group, while Deniz and Beth worship at the Plymouth Methodist Central Hall.

Deniz moved to Plymouth 5 years ago. She initially worked at her daughters' school as a Teaching Assistant and then completed PGCE training at the College of St Mark and St John's. After working as a Supply Teacher for 2 years, she felt the deep calling of Jesus on her life and into ministry (yet again!!!). She has recently been appointed as a Children's and Family worker through her church.

She writes: "I heard about this local job through a totally divine appointment, at Spring Harvest. This is an amazing opportunity for me to work with both children and families who not only need practical and emotional support but are also desperate for spiritual support and growth. This is a very challenging full time position, working in 3 separate neighbourhoods with very diverse needs. One of the neighbourhoods has Sunday services and the other two have mid week events. My job will be to establish contacts with children and families within these areas, provide support and link with other agencies, provide needs based activities for the community within the church, set up and be a part of worship events and to MAKE JESUS FAMOUS.

  • Please pray for strength, spiritual guidance and outpouring of the Holy Spirit for me as I seek to serve Jesus.
  • Please pray for openness and hunger within the community.
  • Please also pray for my family that we will be able to work and get excited together and that my lovely daughters will not feel left out in any way."
